2 Weeks To Go!

Truth be known, I actually spent a short morning hyperventilating last week until my EVOKE team came to the rescue. I always knew why people hired an event planner, but let me tell you, if I didn’t have my team, I still may be hyperventilating. With 2 weeks to go we are busy tying up loose ends such as writing speeches, listening to speeches, rehearsing speeches. Buying clothes, returning clothes and buying new clothes. Checking room blocks, adding late guests to the rooms blocks, finding where in the world some people are staying. On and on…

Everyone asks, how are you? Are you excited? We are so excited because this joyous celebration is only 2 weeks away . We look forward to sharing this occasion with our family and friends as we watch our baby boy hit this incredible milestone in his life. We are beaming with pride as he finalizes his preparations and we know that even though he has not loved Hebrew School, (who does?) this experience will live with him forever as will the teachings of these many years.

This is much more than a party. It is truly a celebration on many levels and l look forward to sharing our celebration with you all!

But your Save the Dates are an opportunity to set the tone of your wedding, and to have some fun doing it! Is it going to be formal or casual? Serious or silly? Your save the dates should reflect you and what you have in store for your guests – and might even help you figure out exactly what you’re envisioning for the big day!

Boutonnieres & Pocket Squares

We’ve talked about their cakes and we’ve talked about their socks – and now we’re back with more tips just for the guys.

One of a groom’s (and a groomsman’s) only opportunities to really customize his wedding day look is on his chest. While a boutonniere might remind most men of prom or homecoming, there’s a lot more to them than just red roses and baby’s breath… flower aren’t even a requirement any more! If a boutonniere still isn’t his speed, a groom and his groomsmen can opt instead for pocket squares. Just like boutonnieres, these can be as custom and unique as he wants. It’s his day too – he should style himself his way!

Run for the Roses

Although it was this weekend, we are still in the spirit of the Derby!

Although we didn’t spend our Saturday at the Churchill Downs. We still think embracing the Kentucky Derby spirit is the way to go! After all, when else can we reasonably wear hats that big? Gather some friends, place some bets, and enjoy mint juleps and derby pie while watching the Run for the Roses. Before you know it, you’ll feel like you really are in your “Old Kentucky Home”! This weekend, we did a derby inspired cocktail, and it was a huge hit, did we mention it was bourbon based?

Groom’s Cake

Groom’s cakes have an interesting history! First appearing in the Victorian era, the tradition was that a slice would be given to each unmarried woman in a box. Instead of eating it, she would sleep with it under her pillow as a kind of good luck charm to help her find a husband! Sounds a little messy to us, really.

Today groom’s cakes are not only eaten, but delicious and fun! Served at the wedding or the rehearsal dinner, they allow the bride to surprise her groom, and to incorporate his interests (whether it’s a hobby, a favorite team, or some hometown pride) into the event.

Featured on United with Love – Gail and David’s Wedding

G+D tied the knot last labor day with 80 of their closest friends and family! Gail, David, and Jeannette hit it off from the start and ended up creating the perfect balance between a sophisticated and organic wedding. The ceremony took place in the grove of Woodend Sanctuary, but we changed things up and decided to turn to face the beautiful nature filled backdrop. A fun fact? The deer were part of our ceremony! After guests watched G+D tie the knot, they enjoyed refreshments and a fabulous cocktail hour outside on the portico. Then guests were invited inside to experience something completely different. Let’s just say, the Woodend Sanctuary tent beamed of romance with our platinum and indigo color palette and all the details in between! Each guests had a custom mosaic indigo blue or platinum tile which lead them to their seats. Tables varied in size and each of the flowers were uniquely different depending on the table. The lighting created an atmosphere unlike any other.

Jeannette’s favorite detail: Tough to say, since I loved this wedding to pieces, however Kate Brannack via Occasions Caterers and I decided the best way to get guests flowing into the main foyer after dinner was to position Gail and David for their first dance in the center, open all of the doors and greet guests with a glass of champagne. Instead of toasting to a speech, they truly toasted to Gail and David’s first!

Some say it’s not easy being green, and while that may be true, we at EVOKE certainly think it’s worth it! As our lives become more eco-friendly, our events do as well. Take for example Ethan’s Bar Mitzvah, which was inspired by nature and all things green. From the Ethan reusable water bottle take-homes to the rainforest inspired tables, Ethan showed his guests that being green and having a great time go hand in hand!
